3 Arrested After Amarillo Killing, With 1 Facing Murder Charge

Amarillo police announced 3 arrests Saturday as investigators continued working to determine what happened in the shooting death of Bradley Thompson, 48.

Skyler Lee Mensen, 33, was arrested on a murder charge. Jesse James Franklin, 34, was arrested for a narcotics violation and a federal hold. Dennis Charles Carlson, 49, was arrested for a parole violation.

All 3 were booked into the Randall County Detention Center. The charges announced against Franklin and Carlson were different from the murder charge announced against Mensen.

Thompson was shot multiple times Thursday night near Southwest 40th Avenue and South Polk Street. Police initially appealed for information and video from the surrounding area while searching for suspects.

Saturday’s arrests marked a new development in that investigation. Police said additional charges were expected, but the department’s update did not identify what those charges would be.

The Homicide Unit continued investigating Thompson’s death and asked anyone with information to contact investigators or submit an anonymous Crime Stoppers tip. The allegations remain subject to court proceedings.
