A PIECE OF LUBBOCK’S BEGINNING: TEXAS TECH’S OLDEST BUILDING SET FOR HISTORICAL HONOR

A building that stood at the beginning of Texas Tech’s story will receive new recognition next week.

The university’s Administration Building is scheduled to receive a Texas Historical Marker during a ceremony at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 16. Texas Tech’s campus calendar lists the celebration on the building’s north side.

Built in 1924 and 1925, the structure originally housed all 4 schools of Texas Technological College, along with offices, classrooms and the library. Texas Tech and the Lubbock County Historical Commission are hosting the ceremony.

For Lubbock, the recognition offers a chance to look beyond today’s campus and remember the beginnings of an institution woven into the community’s identity.

Before generations of students arrived and the university expanded, this building held much of the college under 1 roof. Its history connects today’s Red Raiders with the people who helped establish higher education on the South Plains.

The upcoming ceremony will recognize that history in a place where it began.
