Amarillo Chase Led to a Federal Charge and an Estimated $800,000 Drug Seizure

An Amarillo man faces a federal drug distribution charge after investigators say a pursuit led officers to packages of methamphetamine in a discarded bag and a home.

Court documents filed October 23 identify the defendant as Ollie Lee Payne. The charge alleges possession with intent to distribute at least 500 grams of methamphetamine.

Investigators say they were watching a home near Southwest Ninth Avenue and South Western Street on October 22 when Payne drove away. Agents attempted a traffic stop after reporting driving violations, and a pursuit followed.

Officers allege Payne discarded a bag holding five wrapped packages. After the car became inoperable near East Hastings Avenue and North Hill Street, officers say Payne ran before being arrested.

A search of the home reportedly produced seven additional packages. Investigators estimated the drugs’ value at $800,000. The allegations have not been established by a conviction.
