Cincinnati Handed Texas Tech Its First Loss, 37 to 24

Texas Tech’s unbeaten start ended Saturday in Cincinnati, where the Bearcats defeated the No. 8 Red Raiders 37 to 24. Tech fell to 6 and 1 overall and 3 and 1 in Big 12 play.

A 21 point second quarter changed the game. The Red Raiders went into halftime trailing 24 to 6, their largest halftime deficit since the 2023 game against Texas.

Will Hammond completed 24 of 37 passes for 227 yards. His streak of 8 consecutive games with a touchdown pass ended. Kenny Johnson caught 7 passes, matching his season high.

Peyton Morgan gave Tech a third quarter lift with a 53 yard interception return for a touchdown. The Red Raiders became the first team in Big 12 history to return an interception for a touchdown in 4 consecutive games during the same season.

Cincinnati rushed for 252 yards against a Tech defense that had been allowing 82 per game. The Bearcats also became the first team to score a rushing touchdown against Tech this season.

The Red Raiders return to Lubbock to host Arizona on Saturday, October 31, with kickoff scheduled for 11 a.m.
