Donations Help New Home Rebuild Its Fire Department
Written by KAYLA WILLIAMS · Filed October 19, 2026

The New Home Volunteer Fire Department is replacing equipment and reconnecting with residents after several hard years for the service.
Fire Chief Toby Sanchez said some community members had become unsure whether the department was still operating. The department has served the area since 1977, and its team decided to refocus on improvements.
Donations have included protective bunker gear, boots, portable air supply systems and a 1991 fire engine.
Sanchez said some older equipment had become unusable, including jackets and boots with tears. Replacement equipment gives the department resources it had been struggling to maintain.
Lubbock Fire Rescue and other nearby departments offered help and equipment.
“We’ve had departments as far out as Nacogdoches, Texas, reach out,” Sanchez said.
The rebuilding effort links donated equipment with a renewed attempt to clarify the department’s role to residents. Sanchez credited neighboring communities for helping the team move that work forward.
