“Everyone Has a Breaking Point”: Kress Fire Chief Says He Is Stepping Down
Doy Reidhead says he is leaving the Kress Fire Department over station conditions and conflict with the mayor.
“I might have been appointed Chief but I was never considered Chief by the Mayor,” Reidhead wrote.
He alleged the city received insurance money for repairs, writing, “we still have no office or bathroom it’s been over a year and a half.”
“It’s sad my guys can go out to a fire call come back covered in ash and they don’t even have a sink to wash their hands.”
Reidhead also described frustration over equipment decisions.
“I’m not even notified when one of my trucks is going to be out of service, I find out it’s going to the shop in a group text with the whole department.”
He called on council members to act.
“Everyone has a breaking point and I’ve reached mine as well the question is what is the city council going to do?”
“We have worked hard for this new station, and everything the mayor does is a slap in the face.”
“I can’t be apart of this department anymore if this is the direction the department is heading.”
The letter includes no response from the mayor. Reidhead’s allegations have not been independently verified.
