FM 41 at US 87 closes tonight for bridge work south of Lubbock

Drivers who use FM 41 at US 87 need a different route Monday night. The Texas Department of Transportation plans to close FM 41 at the interchange from 7 p.m. November 2 until 7 a.m. Tuesday, November 3, while crews place the deck on the new bridge.

Both eastbound and westbound FM 41 traffic will be detoured around the work area. The closure affects the crossing at US 87, so anyone heading through the area after work should allow extra travel time and follow the posted detour rather than assuming the usual route remains available.

Additional changes begin Monday on the US 87 frontage roads within the project limits. TxDOT says the inside lanes on both the northbound and southbound frontage roads will close, reducing traffic to one lane while crews work on retaining walls, curb, gutter and other concrete work.

All work depends on the weather. FM 41 is expected to reopen Tuesday morning, but that is the planned schedule rather than a guarantee. Slow down near crews and watch for changing lane arrangements as the interchange project continues.
