GOING TO THE TEXAS TECH GAME SATURDAY? HERE IS THE GAME PLAN THAT COULD SAVE YOU FROM MISSING HALF THE EXPERIENCE
Texas Tech opens the season against Abilene Christian at 6 p.m. Saturday, but fans planning to be anywhere near campus should treat this like an all day event.
Tailgate lots open at 7:30 a.m., so the earliest crowds will already be building before most of Lubbock finishes breakfast.
If you want the full game day experience without spending the entire day outside, 2 p.m. is probably your sweet spot. Raider Alley opens then, giving you time to eat, walk around and get settled before the Raider Walk begins at 3:30 p.m.
The Josh Abbott Band starts at 4 p.m. That is also when student and premium entrances open. All stadium gates open at 4:30 p.m.
If your main goal is football and not the pregame festivities, getting to the stadium area around 4 p.m. gives you two hours before kickoff and avoids trying to arrive when everyone else is moving toward the gates at the same time.
Fans who want to be inside for the full buildup should aim to be through the gates well before 5:45 p.m., when pregame spirit activities begin.
The biggest thing to remember is that 6 p.m. is kickoff, not arrival time. Between parking, walking, meeting your group and getting through the entrance, showing up close to kickoff could mean missing the opening moments of Texas Tech’s season.
So here is the simple version.
Want to tailgate all day? Start at 7:30 a.m.
Want Raider Alley and the Raider Walk? Be there by 2 p.m.
Want Josh Abbott Band? Be in the area before 4 p.m.
Just want the game? Try to reach campus around 4 p.m.
Want the full stadium atmosphere before kickoff? Be in your seat before 5:45 p.m.
Kickoff is at 6 p.m.
For Texas Tech fans, Saturday is not just about when the game starts. It is about knowing when you need to start your game day.
