LUBBOCK COOPER LOOKS TO ANSWER BACK AFTER ROUGH WEEK 1 LOSS

LUBBOCK COOPER LOOKS TO ANSWER BACK AFTER ROUGH WEEK 1 LOSS

Lubbock Cooper gets an immediate opportunity to reset Friday night when the Pirates host Midland Greenwood at 7 PM.

Cooper enters Week 2 at 0 and 1 after Frenship came into Pirate Stadium and handed the Pirates a 50 to 17 loss. Frenship’s passing attack created problems early and turned the game into one Cooper was forced to chase.

This week brings a different challenge.

Greenwood opened its season with a 39 to 12 win over Jim Ned behind junior quarterback Andrick Rodriguez, who threw for 286 yards and four touchdowns while also showing the ability to make plays outside the pocket.

For Cooper, Friday is less about erasing Week 1 and more about showing how quickly the Pirates can adjust.

The biggest priority will be preventing Greenwood from creating explosive plays and keeping the game manageable early. Cooper cannot afford another first half where the opponent controls the tempo and forces the Pirates away from their preferred style.

A win would immediately change the conversation around Cooper’s start. A loss would put the Pirates in an early 0 and 2 hole.

WHAT TO WATCH

Can Lubbock Cooper contain Greenwood quarterback Andrick Rodriguez and establish control before Greenwood’s offense gets comfortable?

Friday night should tell us a lot about how this Cooper team responds when challenged.
