LUBBOCK HIGH SIBLINGS TAKE A STUDY OF 21 CHICKS TO A NATIONAL STAGE

A science project involving 21 Barred Rock chicks is taking 2 Lubbock High School siblings to the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis.

The students qualified after winning at the state level with “Pecking at Performance,” a project examining how probiotic supplements affected the birds.

They randomly assigned the chicks to 3 groups. Their work compared powdered and liquid supplements with a control group, and the students reported that the powdered product performed best in their study.

The national convention begins October 21. AgTexas is covering the siblings’ trip, allowing them to attend without the expense coming out of their own pockets.

The students said the opportunity shows that putting work into FFA can lead to support and experiences beyond the classroom.

The siblings will now share their agriculture research alongside students from across the country.
