LUBBOCK MAN HELD ON $500,000 BOND AFTER WOMAN SUFFERS BRAIN BLEED IN ALLEGED ASSAULT
A 33 year old Lubbock man is being held in the Lubbock County Detention Center after police say a woman suffered a brain bleed and required emergency surgery following an alleged assault.
Deshonn McDaniel was arrested Sept. 3 and charged with aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury in connection with an Aug. 25 incident.
Court documents say the woman arrived at Covenant Medical Center showing stroke like symptoms and was found to have both a brain bleed and bruising on her brain. A neurosurgeon reportedly told investigators the injuries were consistent with trauma such as blunt force.
According to the affidavit, McDaniel initially told authorities the woman’s condition was connected to her medical history and maintained that he had not assaulted her. After the woman regained consciousness, investigators say she told police McDaniel had physically assaulted her and that she began experiencing headaches afterward. She also alleged there had been abuse over a period of years.
McDaniel was later arrested in the 10000 block of Viola Avenue. His bond has been set at $500,000.
The allegations remain part of an active criminal case, and McDaniel has not been convicted of the charge.
