Lubbock Medicare households have until December 7 to review next year’s plans

Medicare’s annual open enrollment period is underway, giving Lubbock residents with Medicare a chance to review health and prescription coverage for 2027. The national window runs through December 7, and qualifying changes made during it generally take effect January 1.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services says health and drug plans can change costs, coverage, provider networks and participating pharmacies each year. A plan that worked this year may need another look if prescriptions, doctors or health needs have changed.

Start with the current plan’s Annual Notice of Change and Evidence of Coverage. Compare those details with the medicines and providers you actually use, including whether your preferred pharmacy participates. The federal plan comparison tool uses a ZIP code to show available options, making the review specific to where you live.

People satisfied with a plan that remains available do not have to switch simply because enrollment is open. This is Medicare’s enrollment period, separate from the individual insurance marketplace. Review the coverage you have before responding to a sales pitch.
