LUBBOCK PROGRAM OFFERS FREE CAR SEATS AFTER A SAFETY CLASS

The Parenting Cottage in Lubbock helps families struggling to afford a car seat. Its assistance program provides 1 free seat per child after an educational course.

The nonprofit offers safety classes twice a month near 50th Street and Memphis Avenue. Expectant parents can also participate in the assistance program.

Classes generally last 45 minutes to an hour. They cover installation, securing a child correctly and checking whether a seat has expired.

Parents who bring their vehicle and are ready to install the seat can receive help after class. Those who are not ready can schedule a later appointment.

The classes are also open to parents who already have a seat and want to update their safety knowledge. Receiving a replacement seat is not required to take part.
