Lubbock Skies Paint a Post-Storm Masterpiece Over 114th Street
West Texas weather never misses an opportunity to deliver a dramatic visual, and a passing pop-up shower over south Lubbock provided the perfect canvas. As heavy, dark storm clouds hung low across the horizon, sunlight broke through the backside of the rain, casting a vivid, glowing rainbow directly across the sky above 114th Street.
The striking contrast between the brooding grey backdrop and the vibrant colors of the arc turned a routine afternoon stop in south Lubbock into a front-row seat for one of nature’s best light shows. Scenes like this are a classic staple of South Plains weather, where sudden storms clear out just fast enough to let the West Texas sunset and sky put on an unforgettable display.
