Lubbock’s 50 Year Snow Anniversary Comes With Rain
Written by THE806ER STAFF-KW · Filed October 26, 2026

Lubbock is approaching the 50th anniversary of an October snowstorm that left 7.5 inches in the city, a weather anniversary during a rainy week.
Local forecasters noted the anniversary in their Monday morning discussion. The snow was measured October 28 and 29 in 1976, putting this week’s dates 50 years after the storm.
This week’s outlook favors a milder pattern. Tuesday should bring clearing clouds and afternoon temperatures in the 70s across the region. Wednesday could reach the upper 70s and lower 80s.
Another weather system is expected to bring rain chances Thursday through Saturday morning, with Friday currently favored for the greatest rainfall potential.
Forecasters said no cold front was expected until early November at the soonest. That timing remains part of a forecast that will be updated as systems approach.
The 1976 total is an observation from a past storm. This week’s forecast describes a different setup, with rain chances and relatively mild temperatures leading toward Halloween.
