No Health Insurance in Lubbock? These Clinics May Help You Get Care
Not having health insurance does not mean every doctor’s office is closed to you\. Lubbock has community clinics and volunteer programs that serve uninsured patients, offer eligibility screening or provide certain services at no cost\. These resources are not substitutes for an emergency room, but they can help people receive routine care before a medical problem gets worse\.
### Community Health Center of Lubbock
Community Health Center of Lubbock accepts uninsured patients and screens new patients for programs that may lower the cost of care\. Its services include primary care, pediatrics, dental care, eye care, behavioral health counseling, women’s health, laboratory work, pharmacy services, radiology, same day care and virtual visits\. Not every service is available at every location\.
The main clinic is located at 1610 5th Street and is open from 8 a\.m\. to 5 p\.m\. Monday through Friday\. Call 806\-765\-2611 to request an appointment or ask which clinic offers the service you need\.
New patients should be prepared to bring identification, proof of income, proof of address, information for dependents, a list of medications and available vaccination records\. The center says a person does not need insurance to be seen, but patients should ask about expected charges and financial assistance before the appointment\.
### Lubbock Impact free medical programs
Lubbock Impact offers two ways for medically uninsured adults ages 19 through 64 to seek free medical care at 2707 34th Street\.
Its Foundations of Healing Medical Clinic sees eligible patients by appointment\. Call 806\-799\-4329 to schedule\. Lubbock Impact also hosts a clinic operated with Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center that accepts walk ins at 4 p\.m\. Wednesdays\.
Lubbock Impact also advertises a free dental clinic that provides tooth extractions to uninsured adults and a free optometry clinic that provides eye examinations and glasses\. Availability may be limited, so residents should call about eligibility and scheduling instead of assuming they can walk in\.
### City of Lubbock Public Health
The City of Lubbock Public Health Department provides clinical services that include immunizations and testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections\. The department is located at 2015 50th Street\. Texas Department of State Health Services listings direct people to call 806\-775\-2933 for STI appointments and 806\-775\-2953 for HIV services\. Ask about current fees, qualifications and appointment availability\.
### Ask about the price before receiving routine care
When scheduling, say clearly that you are uninsured\. Ask whether the clinic offers a sliding fee program, what documents are needed and whether laboratory work, imaging or medication will create separate charges\. Uninsured patients may also request a good faith estimate for scheduled, nonemergency care\.
Bring a written list of symptoms, medications, allergies and previous diagnoses\. If the clinic cannot provide the service, ask for a referral instead of leaving without a next step\. Residents can also dial 211 for additional medical, dental, prescription and mental health resources\.
Call 911 or go to an emergency room for a life threatening emergency, including severe chest pain, serious trouble breathing, uncontrolled bleeding, signs of stroke or another condition requiring immediate care\.
Programs and clinic schedules can change\. Call before visiting\.
