Pampa Police Arrested Suspect After Walmart Parking Lot Shooting

An 18 year old man was arrested Saturday night after a shooting near an entrance to Pampa’s Walmart left another man injured.

Police identified the suspect as Jose Luis Vasquez. In an update issued at 10:49 p.m. October 24, the department said Vasquez had been booked into the Gray County Jail on an arrest warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Officers responded to the parking lot around 2:51 p.m. Saturday. They found a man with a single gunshot wound to his lower leg. He was taken to a hospital with injuries police described as not life threatening.

Investigators said the suspect and the injured man knew each other. Police characterized the shooting as an isolated incident.

The booking announcement came after police identified Vasquez as the person wanted in the case. The department did not announce additional arrests in that update.

Police did not identify the injured man or give a detailed account of what happened immediately before the gunfire in the released statement. The investigation remains developing, and the accusation against Vasquez has not been resolved in court.
