Randy Christian Is Remembered for Helping People Beyond City Hall

Friends remember former Lubbock City Councilman Randy Christian for service to people in recovery and families facing cancer.

Christian died earlier this month, two days before his 75th birthday. Friends said he continued writing, following local events and sharing moments with his family during his final months.

He and his wife, Margaret, were married for 46 years and raised two sons. After another cancer diagnosis earlier this year, he chose to spend his remaining time at home under hospice care.

His friend Richard Bowles helped turn Christian’s song, 10 Again, into a recording. Bowles said writing gave Christian a way to keep creating when illness limited his other activities.

On the City Council, Christian supported the creation of Source to Solution, a regional addiction and recovery symposium that continues seven years later. Friends said he offered support to people in recovery even though he was not an addict himself.
