Storm risk shifts east of the Caprock for Monday travelers
Written by THE806ER STAFF-KW · Filed November 2, 2026

Monday’s weather concern is not the same everywhere in the 806. The National Weather Service in Lubbock says the best chance for severe weather November 2 is east of a line from Post to Memphis, with a few lingering storms possible off the Caprock.
That puts the destination forecast in focus for anyone driving toward the Rolling Plains or southeastern Texas Panhandle. Improving skies in Lubbock do not establish that an entire route farther east will stay storm free. Check conditions in the counties you will cross before leaving and again before the return trip.
The weather service’s regional outlook points to a generally dry remainder of the week with pleasant temperatures after the lingering Monday storm chances. A risk area describes where forecasters see greater potential; it does not mean every town inside it will experience severe weather.
Keep a way to receive weather warnings while traveling and identify a safe indoor stop if storms develop near your route. Plans that involve outdoor work, school activities or long stretches between towns should account for conditions at the destination, not just the weather at home.
