Texas Senate Race Remains Tight as Early Voting Enters Its Final Week
Written by THE806ER STAFF-KW · Filed October 25, 2026

A new statewide poll placed Democrat James Talarico at 48% and Republican Ken Paxton at 46% in Texas’ U.S. Senate race, a gap smaller than the survey’s reported uncertainty.
Libertarian Ted Brown received 1%, while 5% remained undecided. When undecided voters were asked which candidate they leaned toward, the figures shifted to 49% for Talarico, 48% for Paxton and 3% for Brown.
The survey questioned 1,000 likely Texas voters October 17 through 19. Its credibility interval, similar to a margin of error, was plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
That means the numbers do not establish a clear leader. They describe voter preferences during the survey period rather than a final election result.
The economy was the leading issue for 39% of respondents, followed by immigration at 16%, threats to democracy at 13%, education at 12% and health care at 9%.
For Lubbock voters, the Senate contest is part of the November 3 general election ballot. Early voting continues through October 30, giving residents the coming workweek to cast an early ballot.
