West Texas Families Have Until December 7 to Review Medicare Coverage

Medicare’s annual enrollment window is open, giving West Texas beneficiaries an opportunity to compare their current coverage with the choices available for 2027.

The period runs through December 7. Approved changes generally take effect January 1, and the plan must receive an enrollment request by the deadline.

Options include changing Medicare Advantage or prescription drug plans, or switching between Medicare Advantage and Original Medicare.

Compare costs, covered prescriptions, participating doctors and preferred pharmacies. A familiar plan name does not guarantee unchanged coverage, so families should review what their own plan will provide next year.

Local benefits counseling is available through the South Plains Association of Governments. Contact its Area Agency on Aging at (806) 687 0940.

People considering Original Medicare should also check the separate rules governing access to supplemental Medigap insurance.
