A WEST TEXAS COTTON FAMILY’S CROP IS BECOMING A DENIM BRAND

Jessica Sheppard is building a clothing business around a question many shoppers cannot easily answer: where did the cotton in their jeans come from?

The founder of Sheppard Denim Co. plans to introduce a collection in the Panhandle on November 21, followed by an online launch November 22.

Sheppard grew up around agriculture and said a college fashion merchandising class helped her connect the cotton field to the finished clothing rack. Her company follows that supply chain from seed to denim.

The process includes cotton grown by her family, ginning in Pampa and fabric production before the garments are cut, sewn and finished in Los Angeles. Sheppard said the company has partnered with seed producer Phytogen.

She described the clothing as 100% cotton and a “fully traceable product.”

Sheppard says the business is intended to support American families throughout the production process.
