ABOUT 500 LUBBOCK CHILDREN NEED ANGEL TREE HELP
Written by KAYLA WILLIAMS · Filed October 10, 2026

Some Lubbock children’s Christmas wish lists include something more basic than a new toy.
The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program has already enrolled 215 families with about 500 children. Major Jamie Clay expects the total to increase once the final count is completed.
Requests include toys and games, but families also ask for clothing and diapers. Clay said the program relies on donors to provide gifts and essentials that its regular budget could not cover for that many children.
“It always breaks my heart,” Clay said while describing requests for basic necessities.
Clay has worked with the Lubbock Salvation Army for 19 years. She said the level of need still surprises her, and community support makes the Christmas assistance possible.
The enrollment count is preliminary and could grow before Christmas.
The program is seeking donor support during holiday preparations. For participating families, that help can turn a request for essentials into something waiting on Christmas morning.
