AMARILLO REVIEWS CITY CAMERA RULES AFTER A FORMER OFFICER FACES 78 RECORD TAMPERING COUNTS
Amarillo City Council will discuss how city departments use public safety and security cameras at 3 p.m. Tuesday and whether one policy should apply citywide. Police Chief Thomas Hover is scheduled to brief the council. The review follows the firing and arrest of former Amarillo officer Christian Eder, 29. Court records allege Eder searched one man’s license plate 76 times through the Flock camera system and used another law enforcement database twice while entering false investigative reasons. Authorities say the searches were for personal purposes. Amarillo police fired Eder on July 17. He later turned himself in and was released on bond. The 78 charges are allegations, not convictions, and Tuesday’s item is a policy discussion rather than a posted final vote.
