Cold front sends Lubbock into a colder Friday

Lubbock is expected to reach about 74 degrees Thursday, October 15, before a cold front brings a sharp change for the end of the week.

Clouds should decrease through the day. Winds are forecast from the west at 5 to 15 mph before turning north northeast during the afternoon. Thursday night brings a low near 49, with north northeast winds of 20 to 25 mph and gusts reaching 35 mph.

Friday will feel different. The forecast high is only 57, with a persistent north northeast breeze. Anyone heading out early or staying outside after sunset will need to account for both the temperature and wind.

The forecast calls for a low near 36 Friday night. Saturday should be sunny with a high near 59, followed by a gradual rebound to about 66 Sunday.

The overnight forecast leaves a small chance of rain before dawn Thursday. That does not mean rain will continue across Lubbock all day. The main change for the city is the transition from a mild Thursday afternoon to colder, windy conditions overnight.
