COLLEGE AID APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN

Lubbock families planning for college next fall can begin the federal financial aid application now, at no charge. The FAFSA for the 2027 and 2028 academic year opened September 23, ahead of the October 1 launch deadline.

The application is used to determine eligibility for federal grants, student loans and work study. It is relevant to students considering Texas Tech, South Plains College, Lubbock Christian University and other participating colleges or career schools.

This cycle uses 2025 tax information. Students need a Federal Student Aid account, and any parent or spouse required to contribute information needs an individual account as well. Completing the application does not require a student to accept a loan.

The federal filing deadline is June 30, 2028, but school and state deadlines can arrive much earlier. Families should check the financial aid deadlines at each school they are considering. Returning students also need to complete the application for each year they seek aid.
