College Aid Applications Open For West Texas Families

West Texas students planning for college in 2027 can complete the federal financial aid application for the 2027 to 2028 academic year.

The application helps determine eligibility for grants, work study and federal student loans. The aid cycle covers July 1, 2027, through June 30, 2028, so families should check that they are submitting the correct year’s form.

The online application opened September 23. Students can begin before making a final college choice, with the schools they list receiving information used to prepare financial aid offers.

Federal, state and college deadlines are separate. The federal application deadline for this cycle is June 30, 2028, but waiting until then could mean missing a school’s earlier priority date or access to limited funds.

Students considering Texas Tech, South Plains College or another institution should check that school’s financial aid calendar. Applying requests aid; it does not guarantee an award or eliminate other enrollment requirements.
