CORONADO BOUNCES BACK FROM HEARTBREAK AND HANDS LUBBOCK HIGH A 21 TO 10 LOSS

Coronado needed an answer after letting a 19 point lead disappear in its season opener, and the Mustangs found one Thursday night.

Coronado defeated Lubbock High 21 to 10 at Lowrey Field, giving the Mustangs their first victory of the season and dropping the Westerners to 0 and 2.

The win comes one week after Coronado suffered a painful 36 to 35 loss to Monterey despite leading 28 to 9 during the third quarter. This time, the Mustangs were able to finish the job and leave the field with a win.

Lubbock High entered Thursday looking for the same kind of reset after falling 47 to 13 against Estacado in Week 1. The Westerners kept the Coronado game much closer, but could not generate enough offense to erase the final 11 point difference.

Both programs now turn toward Week 3. Lubbock High is scheduled to host San Angelo Lake View at 4 p.m. on September 11, while Coronado stays home for a 7 p.m. matchup against Frenship Memorial that same night.

For Coronado, Thursday was about responding after a difficult opening week. For Lubbock High, the search for its first win continues.
