FLOCK PAYMENT PAUSES KEEP SOME TEXAS CAMERAS RUNNING DURING THE STATE FUNDING FREEZE
Written by KAYLA WILLIAMS · Filed October 3, 2026

Some Texas agencies are keeping Flock surveillance cameras operating after the company offered a 90 day payment pause. Dallas will retain more than 300 cameras slated for removal. Addison, New Braunfels and Johnson County also received extensions. The arrangements follow Governor Greg Abbott’s freeze on state funding. Officials said they otherwise would have shut down devices supported by state grants. The pause allows time to seek funding. Abbott has not announced when the freeze will end. Flock has not clarified whether its temporary relief is available statewide or arranged individually. Police credit the cameras with helping investigate crime. Privacy advocates warn about misuse and insufficient limits on data access. Lawmakers from both parties have discussed restrictions. Policy and funding remain unsettled.
