Gasoline Falls While Diesel Climbs
Written by THE806ER STAFF-KW · Filed October 22, 2026

Gasoline and diesel moved in opposite directions in the latest federal fuel survey, a split with different consequences for West Texas drivers. Regular gasoline fell nationally, while diesel became more expensive.
The October 19 figures put regular gasoline at a national average of $4.284 per gallon, down 4.7 cents from the previous week. Texas averaged $3.704, a decrease of 7.5 cents.
For a 20 gallon gasoline purchase, that Texas weekly change works out to about $1.50 less. The statewide average is a benchmark; Lubbock stations set their own prices.
Diesel told a different story. The national average rose 9.7 cents to $6.276 per gallon. In the Gulf Coast region, it climbed 9.4 cents to $5.903.
That distinction matters when comparing the cost of fueling a family car with a diesel pickup or commercial vehicle. A drop in gasoline prices does not describe every driver’s fuel bill.
The numbers are survey averages for October 19, rather than a live quote for any particular pump in the 806.
