WHITE HOUSE WEIGHED DIESEL RELIEF AS LUBBOCK PRICES REMAINED NEAR $6 A GALLON
Written by KAYLA WILLIAMS · Filed September 30, 2026

The White House was reviewing options to lower diesel costs as the fuel squeezed West Texas farmers, truckers and small businesses. Proposals included broader use of red dyed diesel that is normally exempt from federal highway tax, voluntary export limits and a possible restriction on diesel exports. No final decision had been announced. The latest federal weekly average fell to about $6.38 a gallon after reaching roughly $6.53 the week before. Texas averaged about $5.90 on Tuesday, while the Lubbock metro was near $5.99. Supporters say keeping more fuel in the country could ease prices. Refiners warn restrictions could reduce production and create supply problems. Any change could still reach households because diesel is built into the cost of farming, freight and deliveries.
