JONAH REED RETURNS WITH 326 YARDS AS MONTEREY OPENS DISTRICT PLAY WITH A SHUTOUT

Monterey quarterback Jonah Reed made his season debut count Friday, leading the Plainsmen to a 24 to 0 win over Amarillo Caprock in their district opener. Reed had missed the first four games while recovering from an injury, then completed 20 of 33 passes for 326 yards and two touchdowns in his return. He also ran for another score. The performance gave Monterey an immediate lift in the passing game, but the zero on the other side of the scoreboard mattered just as much. The Plainsmen defense kept Caprock out of the end zone for four quarters and helped the team begin district play with a clean result. For Reed, the numbers answered immediate questions about his arm and game conditioning after a month away. One game does not erase the challenge of rebuilding timing, and tougher district tests remain, but Reed showed Monterey can stretch the field when its starting quarterback is available. Starting 1 and 0 in district gives the Plainsmen room to build rather than chase.
