LUBBOCK ARTISTS CAN EARN $500 PAINTING A PIANO.
Written by KAYLA WILLIAMS · Filed October 11, 2026

Four upright pianos will become public artwork in Lubbock, and local artists still have time to submit ideas.
The Lubbock Cultural Arts Foundation is accepting original design concepts through October 19. Each selected artist will receive a $500 stipend to turn a piano into playable artwork.
The project calls for designs reflecting the people, music, landscapes and cultural character of Lubbock and the South Plains. Each piano has a separate prompt, and applicants must choose 1.
Artists of different backgrounds and experience levels are invited to apply. Painting, illustration, graphic designs and mural styles are welcome.
The finished instruments must remain durable, safe and fully playable. Once completed, they will be placed at participating host locations where the public can play and photograph them.
There are 4 available pianos; submitting a design does not guarantee selection.
With 9 days until the deadline, applicants should review the foundation’s guidelines before submitting concepts.
