Lubbock Cooper Tax Vote Carries a $65 Annual Estimate
Written by KAYLA WILLIAMS · Filed October 20, 2026

Lubbock Cooper ISD voters are being asked to approve a school property tax rate increase that the district says would add about $65 a year to the bill for an average home.
The proposal would raise the rate by 3 cents per $100 of taxable property value, bringing the total to just under $1.20.
District officials estimate approval would produce nearly $4 million annually for teacher pay and basic school operations.
The Lubbock Chamber of Commerce endorsed Proposition A during an October 19 news conference with community partners.
The $65 figure is the district’s average home estimate, rather than a uniform charge for every property. Individual bills depend on taxable value and applicable exemptions.
For scale, a 3 cent rate change equals $30 annually for each $100,000 of taxable value, assuming that value stays unchanged.
The measure gives voters a direct decision about the district’s operating revenue. Early voting continues through October 30, with Election Day scheduled for November 3.
