LUBBOCK COUNTY ASKS TO WITHHOLD PRECINCT 2 RECORDS WHILE A CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION IS PENDING

Lubbock County has asked the Texas attorney general to allow it to withhold portions of requested records about legal expenses tied to the Precinct 2 dispute. Its September 30 letter cites a pending criminal investigation. The request seeks invoices, contracts and payment authorizations for attorney Kristen VanderPlas LaFreniere’s bills connected to Mark Meurer. The available reporting does not establish the total legal fees. The nearly $70,000 in the broader dispute concerns salary paid to Meurer after Ronnie Corley was restored to office. That salary amount is separate from the attorney’s bills. The local district attorney’s office recused itself, and the matter was referred to the Midland County district attorney. The attorney general has not ruled on withholding the records. The records decision and investigation remain unresolved. Ace Bail Bonds can help with bail bond questions. Call (806) 747 0257.
