Filling up is taking a bigger bite out of household budgets across the 806, with Lubbock’s average gasoline price now above $4 a gallon.

As of September 22, regular unleaded averaged $4.02 in Lubbock and $3.98 in Amarillo. Both were above the Texas average of $3.96. Diesel averaged $6.04 in Lubbock and $6.01 in Amarillo.

For Lubbock drivers, regular gasoline was approximately $1.40 a gallon higher than a year ago. That translates to about $28 more for a 20 gallon fill.

Lubbock had the higher average of the 806’s 2 metropolitan areas included in the comparison. However, current, comparable citywide averages were not available for every smaller community, so these figures do not establish which town has the highest prices across the entire 806.

Statewide, the highest regular gasoline averages among the surveyed metropolitan areas were:

Metro area Average per gallon El Paso $4.37 Corpus Christi $4.12 McAllen area $4.10 Brownsville area $4.09 Laredo $4.09

Prices are rounded, and individual stations may charge more or less than the metro average.

The photo submitted to The806er shows an Allsup’s sign advertising regular at approximately $4.19 and diesel at $6.19. Its location and date have not been confirmed, so it cannot establish a citywide price or regional ranking.

Higher crude oil costs have been putting pressure on pump prices. A September 17 fuel market update identified continued uncertainty around the Strait of Hormuz as a factor keeping oil near $100 a barrel, even as summer driving demand eases.
