New Footage Shows Tahoka Stop Behind Chief’s Award

Newly released public body camera footage shows the school zone traffic stop that led Tahoka to recognize Police Chief Jeff Parker with an award for saving lives.
Parker said he stopped a van last month on Highway 380 after it traveled 33 mph through a school zone with a 20 mph limit. He said the warning lights were flashing at the time.
Parker said the driver lacked a license, and officers found mismatches in the vehicle’s information. Another officer helped communicate with the driver in Spanish.
Parker called for help from federal immigration officers in Lubbock and the Lynn County Sheriff’s Office. Nine adults, including the driver, were detained and taken to jail before Homeland Security assumed custody.
Parker said officers believed the circumstances pointed to trafficking. No trafficking charge or court finding was identified in the public account.
The city’s award recognized Parker’s actions during the encounter. The newly available footage adds a view of how the stop unfolded.
