Tahoka honors chief for the rescue of 9 victims

A traffic stop in Tahoka led to the discovery of 9 people who were identified as human trafficking victims, according to a city announcement honoring Police Chief Jeff Parker.

The city awarded Parker a Life Saving Award and credited his response, experience and knowledge with helping protect the group. Officials said 3 young women were among those found.

“This incident is a powerful reminder that even a routine traffic stop can become a life changing moment,” the city said in its announcement.

The recognition made the rescue public, but the announcement left several questions unanswered. It did not identify when the stop happened, describe the circumstances that led officers to recognize trafficking or say whether anyone was arrested or charged.

Officials did not release the identities of those rescued or explain what services they received afterward.

The city’s announcement credited Parker with helping save the lives of 9 people. Further investigative details have not been announced.
