OAK CREEK APARTMENTS RESPONDS TO RESIDENT CONCERNS, SAYS SEWER WORK WAS NECESSARY AND REPAIRS ARE NOW COMPLETE
Oak Creek Apartments is responding after concerns were raised publicly about major sewer work being performed inside occupied units at the Lubbock complex. Management says the construction was part of a necessary replacement of deteriorated underground cast iron sewer lines that had significant damage and tree root intrusion. Because the lines run beneath apartment homes, contractors had to temporarily remove portions of flooring and open the concrete slab to reach the plumbing. Oak Creek says photos shared publicly showed the units during active construction and do not represent their current condition. According to management, the underground work shown in those photos was completed more than a week ago. The excavated areas were then filled, concrete was restored and the apartments moved into the remaining restoration process. Oak Creek also disputes claims that residents were knowingly moved into apartments with collapsed sewer lines. Management says the severity of underground problems is determined through inspections and that repairs have been made as problems were identified. The complex says residents received communication about the work and that additional accommodations were provided during construction. Management also says rent concessions are reviewed individually depending on the length of the disruption, extent of the work and accommodations provided.
Oak Creek acknowledged that having major construction performed inside an occupied apartment can be frustrating, but says ownership is investing significant resources into replacing aging infrastructure rather than relying on temporary fixes.
