RECORDS REVEALED THE ALLEGATIONS THAT LED TEXAS TECH TO FIRE VOLLEYBALL COACH TONY GRAYSTONE
Written by KAYLA WILLIAMS · Filed September 30, 2026

Emails released through a public records request provided new details about Texas Tech’s September 13 firing of head volleyball coach Tony Graystone. A complaint sent to Athletics Director Kirby Hocutt on September 7 accused Graystone of physical abuse, medical mistreatment and felony battery involving an unnamed player. The reporting party asked administrators not to contact Graystone before a meeting, citing fear of retaliation and intimidation. Hocutt met with the reporting party on September 9. Four days later, Tech terminated Graystone for cause. His dismissal letter said the university was ending all remaining contractual obligations other than accrued vacation pay. The allegations have not been proven in court, and the released records did not announce a criminal charge. Associate head coach Alisa Blair is serving as interim coach for the rest of the 2026 season.
