Seminole Approves Baby Box Project
Written by THE806ER STAFF-KW · Filed October 22, 2026

A project intended to give a parent in crisis a safe place to surrender an infant has cleared a step in Seminole. City Council approved installation of a Safe Haven Baby Box last week, and organizers are preparing to raise the money needed to put it in place.
Seminole resident Jamie Spears and EMS Chief Carly French have worked with city leaders on the proposal since January. Approval allows the effort to move toward fundraising for the box, installation and continued monitoring.
Those costs extend beyond purchasing the equipment. Organizers say the project will need support for the ongoing monitoring that helps first responders receive an infant safely.
The planned box would be similar to the 2 already in Lubbock. Texas Safe Haven law permits the anonymous surrender of an unharmed infant who is 60 days old or younger at an authorized location.
The announcement did not provide an opening date. Council approval marks progress toward creating the service, with fundraising still ahead.
