Silent Wings Brings 1940s Songs Back to the Hangar
Written by KAYLA WILLIAMS · Filed October 20, 2026

Music from the 1940s will return to a setting built around that era when the Silent Wings Museum hosts Songs of Yesteryear on Saturday, November 7.
Students from the Texas Tech School of Music will perform selections from the Great American Songbook in the museum’s Hangar Gallery. The program begins at 2 p.m.
Guests will also hear a preview of Staggerwing, a chamber opera scheduled for presentation by the School of Music in mid November.
The concert is included with regular museum admission. It is not advertised as a separate free admission day.
The museum, at 6202 Interstate 27 in Lubbock, documents the training and wartime experiences of American glider pilots. Its collection includes a restored CG 4A cargo glider, placing the performance alongside material from World War II aviation history.
The program connects current university performers with music written during that period. For admission information and questions about the concert, the museum can be reached at (806) 775 3059.
