SLATON CHOIR’S FOREIGNER PERFORMANCE BRINGS $1,000 IN SUPPORT
Written by KAYLA WILLIAMS · Filed October 9, 2026

Slaton High School choir students joined Foreigner at Buddy Holly Hall Tuesday night, bringing a growing school music program onto a major Lubbock stage.
Choir director Paul Vasquez told KCBD the program expanded from 14 students to 63 over a few years. He said opportunities to perform at large venues are not always available to students from a small town.
The concert also brought financial support. Foreigner donated $500 to the choir, and Lubbock restaurant One Guy from Italy matched the contribution, bringing the combined amount to $1,000.
Bassist Jeff Pilson said every band member received public school music education. He credited an encouraging orchestra teacher with helping him pursue music professionally.
The band’s school choir appearances aim to draw attention to funding for music education, which Pilson said can be vulnerable when budgets tighten.
For Slaton’s students, the performance connected classroom preparation with a professional concert while bringing new recognition and support to their program.
