Tahoka Family Gives a 1915 Building a New Purpose

A former mercantile building in downtown Tahoka is being prepared for a different kind of gathering, with a family restoring it as a venue for weddings, live music and community events.

Brandi Adams and her husband plan to call the space LouEffie Pearl’s. They want it to honor their daughter and give their musician son a place to perform.

Adams traced the property’s history through old newspapers in Texas Tech’s Southwest Collection. It began in 1915 as the Knight and Brashear Building, selling groceries, feed, clothing and other goods.

The building later housed different businesses and had been used for storage since the 1960s. The family is now working to preserve that history while adapting the space for events.

Its planned name comes from a late neighbor who used LouEffie Pearl as a nickname for the couple’s daughter.

“It was the store for everybody, and we want to continue that, for it to be the venue for everybody,” Adams said.

The update did not include a public opening date.
