West Texas Artist Lil Will Weighs In: Is Using AI To Write Songs Cheating?
Artificial intelligence is quickly becoming part of nearly every industry, and music is no exception. But as more artists begin using AI for everything from brainstorming concepts to writing complete lyrics, a bigger question is starting to surface: does using AI to make music take away from the artistry?
Rising West Texas artist Lil Will recently sat down with The806er and shared his perspective on artists using artificial intelligence to help write their songs.
The debate is becoming increasingly relevant as AI tools make it possible to generate hooks, verses, song concepts and even full tracks within seconds. Some artists view the technology as another creative tool that can help develop ideas or overcome writer’s block. Others believe songwriting should come directly from an artist’s own experiences, emotions and creativity, especially in genres where authenticity is a major part of the music.
It also raises questions about where the line should be drawn. Is asking AI for a few ideas different from having it write an entire song? And if fans discover their favorite artist did not actually write the lyrics they connected with, does that change how they view the music?
Lil Will’s conversation with The806er adds a West Texas voice to a debate the entire music industry may soon have to confront.
What do you think: Is using AI to write songs cheating, or is it simply the newest tool available to artists?
