Akkini McDade Turns Himself In Following Deadly East Lubbock Shooting; Family Maintains His Innocence

Akkini McDade, 24, turned himself in Thursday, October 22, after police sought him on a murder charge connected to an east Lubbock shooting, according to information provided to The806er. His family continues to maintain that he is innocent.

Lubbock County jail records show an October 22 arrest date and list the U.S. Marshals Service as the arresting agency. The entry displayed “In Custody: Awaiting Booking” and an “Other Agency Hold.” No bond amount was shown in the record provided.

The Lubbock Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit previously identified McDade as a suspect in the October 11 shooting that killed Delton Lewis, 28, and injured Yundi Inthisan-Johnson, 18. Authorities had requested the public’s help locating McDade.

Officers responded around 2:40 a.m. near East 26th Street and Ivory Avenue following reports of gunfire. Police said Lewis was found suffering from gunshot wounds inside a vehicle that had crashed into a parked vehicle. He died at the scene.

Inthisan-Johnson arrived at University Medical Center with gunshot wounds that investigators believed were connected to the same incident. His injuries were initially described as moderate. Investigators said a gunman allegedly approached the vehicle occupied by the 2 men and opened fire.

The available jail entry did not provide details about where McDade surrendered or display a specific criminal charge beneath the booking status.

McDade is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
