AMARILLO FIRE CREWS CONTAINED BLAZE IN EMPTY BUILDING
Written by KAYLA WILLIAMS · Filed October 6, 2026

A fire at the former Guyon Saunders building in downtown Amarillo was brought under control Monday afternoon. The Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating what caused it.
Firefighters arrived around 1:05 p.m. near South Tyler Street and Southwest 3rd Avenue. Crews found heavy smoke and fire coming from the second floor.
The Amarillo Fire Department reported the blaze under control at 2:41 p.m. Officials said the building was unoccupied and no injuries were reported.
The cause remains the central unanswered question. The public update reviewed Monday evening did not provide a damage estimate or a determination of how the fire started.
Officials have not announced a finding establishing whether the cause was accidental or involved a criminal act. Further details remain developing as the Fire Marshal’s Office completes its investigation.
