AMARILLO TEEN IS HELD ON $1 MILLION BOND IN NEW YEAR’S DAY SHOOTING CASE

Jeremiah Matthews was arrested Sept. 15 on a warrant connected to the New Year’s Day shooting death of 15 year old Brynnlee Hampton, according to Potter County jail records. Matthews faces a manslaughter charge and is being held on a $1 million bond. He previously posted an original $500,000 bond in June. Court records show search warrants for electronics and DNA were issued Sept. 3, followed by state subpoenas on Sept. 10 and 11. The new arrest changes Matthews’ custody status but is not a finding of guilt. The charge remains pending, and prosecutors must prove the allegation beyond a reasonable doubt. Future hearings will determine whether the warrant changes the case schedule or bond terms again. No trial outcome has been reached.
