Brownfield woman dies in Terry County crash that injures two others

A Brownfield woman died and two others were injured in a crash early Saturday on U.S. 62 in Terry County. The collision happened around 3:30 a.m., about four tenths of a mile southwest of County Road 670.

A preliminary state investigation found a Chevrolet Trax traveling northeast in southwestbound lanes collided with a Ford F150. Halee Williams, 20, the SUV’s driver, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Pickup driver Rodrigo Lopez, 38, of Denver City, was taken to University Medical Center with serious injuries. Passenger Breanna Cobbs, 32, of Hobbs, New Mexico, was hospitalized with minor injuries.

The road was dry and skies were clear. Investigators said the pickup’s occupants were not wearing seat belts; Williams’ belt use was unknown. Why the SUV entered opposing lanes was not established.
