Student Wants “Ms. Metcalf” Remembered After Crash Kills 47 Year Old Tahoka Woman

Remembering Elizabeth Metcalf, 47: Making Room for Her Life and the People Who Knew Her

Elizabeth Metcalf, 47, of Tahoka died Sunday evening, October 18, following a collision in Lubbock County. As the investigation continues, The806er is making room for her name, her memory and the voices of people who knew her.

A fuller account of Elizabeth’s life deserves to be told through those relationships. A favorite memory, a conversation that stayed with someone or a moment shared at school can help others understand who she was.

One student has already taken a small step toward making sure she is remembered.

After learning about the crash, the student contacted The806er and identified the woman who died as “a teacher at my school,” referring to her as Ms. Metcalf. The student requested anonymity.

The message was brief and personal. Someone they knew from school was gone, and they wanted the community to know about her.

That account remains attributed to the student. The806er has not independently confirmed Elizabeth’s school affiliation.

According to investigators, Metcalf was traveling west on FM 1585 when another vehicle allegedly failed to yield at the intersection with County Road 3100. She attempted to avoid the collision and died at the scene. The other driver was subsequently charged with intoxication manslaughter.

For anyone who knew Elizabeth, we welcome a memory you would like to share in her honor. Tell us what you remember about her, what made you smile or what you hope others will know about her life.

Our condolences are with everyone grieving Elizabeth’s loss.
